Your ProjectSend Cloud account can be operated by the AI assistant you already use: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, or an automation tool such as n8n. You ask in plain words; the assistant saves files, gets private links, tells you who downloaded what and, on Pro and Business, creates client accounts and sends files to them. Everything it does shows up in your account the moment it happens, with the same names, and is recorded as AI assistant.
There is no API key to paste. You connect the assistant the way you would connect a calendar: it sends you to ProjectSend, you sign in, you approve what it may do, and you can take that back with one click. Connecting an assistant is included in every plan, the free one too.
What your assistant can do
| Free | Pro and Business | |
|---|---|---|
| Save something the assistant wrote (a report, a summary, a CSV) as a file, and get its private link | Yes | Yes |
| Upload a file the assistant holds (from a script, a sandbox, Claude Code) | Yes | Yes |
| Hand you the upload page for a file that is on your computer | Yes | Yes |
| List your files, find one, see its details | Your own files | Everything you can see on the web |
| Get a private link for a file, and stop a link | Yes | Yes, with an expiry date and a download cap if your role allows them |
| Tell you who downloaded a file, and when | Yes | Yes, per file, per link or per client |
| Delete a file | Your own | Yes |
| Check how much space you have used | Yes | Yes, plus client seats |
| List clients, look one up, create a client account | No | Yes |
| Send a file to a client account, with the usual email | No | Yes |
On the free plan there are no client accounts: files reach people by private link. If you ask your assistant to create a client, it will offer the private link instead and mention, once, what a portal of your own adds. It will not keep bringing it up.
What no assistant can do, on any plan: read the contents of your files through the connection (it works with names, sizes, links and download records, not the bytes), change your plan or your billing, or act before you have approved it. You connect it, you choose what it may do, and you can disconnect it at any time.
Before you connect
- A ProjectSend Cloud account. Free works: start free.
- Your ProjectSend address, which is what you give the assistant:
| Plan | Address |
|---|---|
| Free | https://files.projectsend.site/mcp |
| Pro and Business | https://your-subdomain.projectsend.site/mcp — the projectsend.site address you chose when you created your portal, with /mcp at the end |
It is always the projectsend.site address. If your portal answers at a domain of your own, the assistant still connects here.
- The assistant you use. The steps below cover Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT and automation tools. Any assistant that speaks MCP (the Model Context Protocol) over HTTP works the same way.
When you connect, your browser opens a page on your ProjectSend site that asks you to sign in and to approve the connection. Nothing works until you do.
Connect Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it ProjectSend, paste your ProjectSend address and add it.
- Click Connect. ProjectSend opens in a new tab: sign in if you are not already, choose what the assistant may do, confirm your password and approve.
- Back in Claude, start a chat, make sure ProjectSend is enabled in the tools menu, and try: "Save these notes as a file and give me a link to share."
Claude Desktop uses the same connectors as claude.ai: add it once and it is available in both. If you do not see Connectors, your Claude plan may not include custom connectors yet.
Connect Claude Code
In a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http projectsend https://files.projectsend.site/mcp
Use your own address instead of files.projectsend.site on Pro and Business. Then, inside a Claude Code session, run /mcp, pick projectsend and authenticate: the browser opens the approval page. From then on Claude Code can also upload files it has on disk, a 30 MB PDF it just generated, say, and hand you the link.
Connect Cursor
Open Settings → MCP and add a new server, or put this in .cursor/mcp.json in your project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"projectsend": { "url": "https://files.projectsend.site/mcp" }
}
}
Cursor opens the approval page the first time a ProjectSend tool is used. Approve there, and the tools are available in the chat.
Connect ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
- Create a connector with your ProjectSend address. ChatGPT may call it an app or a connector; the address is the same.
- Approve the connection on the ProjectSend page that opens.
- In a chat, enable ProjectSend from the tools menu.
Menu names in ChatGPT change from time to time. Look for the place where custom connectors or MCP servers are added.
Automation tools and your own agents (Pro and Business)
n8n, Make, a script, an agent you run yourself: anything that can send an HTTP header can use the same address with an API token from Settings → API tokens in your ProjectSend site, sent as Authorization: Bearer <token>. The permissions you give the token decide which tools it can use, and it never gets more than your own account has. Tokens have an expiry date, chosen when you create them, and everything they do is recorded with the token's name.
The free plan has no API tokens: on the free plan, assistants connect through the approval page.
What you approve
The approval page shows:
Which assistant is asking, by name. Assistants that publish their identity at a public address (Claude does) are marked Verified, with that address; others are marked Unverified, with the address your browser will return to. An app that runs on your own computer, like Claude Code, says so.
Which account it will operate: the one you are signed in to, by name and email, and on which site.
What it may do. On Pro and Business you choose one of two:
- Read: see your files, their private links and who downloaded them. Nothing changes.
- Operate: also save and upload files, share and revoke links, delete files, and on this plan manage client accounts and send them files.
On the free plan there is one setting and no choice to make: save and upload your files, get their private links, see who downloaded them, and free up space. Only your own files, never another account's.
Your password, once more, the same way ProjectSend asks before creating an API token.
Allow connects; Deny sends the assistant away with nothing. You can connect the same assistant twice with different choices, and each connection is listed separately. Approving is recorded in your account, and so is disconnecting.
Getting a file in
Three ways, and your assistant picks the right one:
- Something it wrote in the conversation, a report, notes, a table, is saved directly, up to 1 MB, and you get the private link in the same reply.
- A file the assistant itself holds, on disk in Claude Code, produced by a script, in a sandbox, is uploaded in parts, any size your plan allows. Nothing is pasted into the chat.
- A file on your computer that the assistant cannot reach: it gives you the link to your upload page. Upload there, tell it "done", and it picks the file up from there.
The same rules apply as on the web: the site's file types, the file size limit, and your space. When something does not fit, the assistant is told exactly why and what to do next, so it will offer to free space or ask for a different format rather than trying again blindly.
Sharing: links and client accounts
A private link is a URL that anyone holding it can use to download, with no account. It is how every file on the free plan is shared, and it works on every plan. Ask for "a link" and you get one; ask to "stop the link" and it stops working for everyone immediately.
A client account (Pro and Business) is a person who signs in to your portal to see what you shared with them. Sending a file to a client does what the web does: it appears in their account and they are emailed. The difference from a link is that you can see that they, specifically, downloaded it.
What you see afterwards
Everything the assistant does is in your account the moment it happens:
- Free: your files, their links and their download counts are in My files on files.projectsend.site, exactly as if you had uploaded them yourself. Files on the free plan are kept for 30 days after they are uploaded, and you get an email before any are deleted; the assistant sees each file's expiry date. Using your account through your assistant also counts as signing in for the once-a-month rule that keeps a free account.
- Pro and Business: Activity shows every action with the origin AI assistant and the assistant's name, next to what you and your team did yourselves, and the filter for it is on the same screen. Files, links, clients and shares are where they always are.
Ask your assistant "did they download it?" and it reads the same record you would.
Space, and the paid plan
Your assistant knows how much space you have and quotes your real numbers. When you are close to full it says so, once, and offers to free space first. On the free plan it will also mention, once, what a portal of your own adds (your logo at your own address, client accounts, team seats, much more room, from $19 a month) and that we move your files across when you upgrade. It will not sell to you in every reply; if it does, that is a bug and we would like to hear about it.
Disconnecting
Settings → AI connections in your ProjectSend site (the page is at /settings/ai-connections, on the free site too) lists every assistant you have connected: its name, whether it is verified, what it may do, when you connected it and when it was last used. Disconnect cuts it immediately: the assistant's next request is refused and it has to be connected again from scratch. Your files, links and clients are untouched.
A connection that goes 30 days without being used expires on its own. Connect again from the assistant when you need it.
You can also remove the connector on the assistant's side, but disconnecting here is the one the assistant cannot undo.
Privacy, in short
- The connection sees names, sizes, links, download records and, on Pro and Business, client names and email addresses. Never the contents of a file. What you ask the assistant to save does reach us, like any upload.
- Your assistant's replies are processed by the AI provider you chose, under their terms. They are not our subprocessor. On Pro and Business, sharing your clients' names and files with that provider is your decision as the owner of that data.
- We keep the assistant's registration, the connection (its credentials stored hashed), when it was last used, and every action in your activity log. Expired connections are removed daily.
- We do not use your files to train models, and neither does the connection.
The full text is in the AI connectors section of our privacy policy.
If something does not work
- "This connection was authorised to read only." You chose Read when connecting. Open Settings → AI connections, disconnect it, and connect again choosing Operate.
- "Not available on a free account." Client accounts come with a portal of your own. Your assistant will offer a private link instead; that is the free plan working as designed.
- The assistant cannot read a file on your computer. It cannot, by design: use the upload page it gives you, then tell it the file is there.
- A link stopped working. Somebody stopped it, or it reached its expiry date or download cap. Ask for a new one.
- The assistant keeps asking me to sign in. The connection was disconnected or went 30 days without use. Connect again.
- The assistant says it has to wait a moment. There is a limit to how many requests one connection can make per minute, and the assistant is told how long to wait. In a normal conversation you will not notice it.
- Anything else: on Pro and Business, write to us from your portal's support page, with the assistant's name and roughly when it happened; the activity log tells us the rest. On the free plan, the ProjectSend community is the place to ask.
