Questions we hear before people start
Can I leave whenever I want?
Yes — and that's the difference with any closed SaaS: you export all your files and your configuration, and because the software is open source (GPLv2), you can keep running your portal on your own server. The cloud and the self-hosted edition run the same code, so your data moves between them in both directions. Zero lock-in, by design.
I already self-host ProjectSend. Will you migrate me?
Yes: we'll move your self-hosted instance to the cloud for free, usually in under 48 hours. And if you ever want to go back to self-hosting, the reverse path exists too.
Do my clients have to pay or install anything?
No. Your clients sign in from their browser with a username and password — nothing to install, nothing to pay, on Pro and Business. Plans are priced by active client accounts: archive a client when an engagement ends and they stop counting. The Free plan is a personal space and has no client accounts of its own.
Who can see my files?
Only you and the people you invite. On Pro and Business your portal's data lives in its own dedicated database — never mixed with anyone else's. On Free your account lives on a ProjectSend site we run, shared with other free accounts: your files stay private to you and to the people you send a link to. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, and we don't access or review the content of your files — our Terms say so explicitly.
What's the difference with the free ProjectSend?
The software is the same (and we keep developing it in the open). In the cloud you pay for the operations: managed hosting, your domain with SSL, email that actually arrives, backups, automatic updates and support. You take care of your clients; we take care of the servers.
How are you related to the open source project?
We're the same team that maintains ProjectSend. Every cloud subscription funds the development of the free software: new releases, security work and community support. The GPLv2 core stays free forever.
When can I start?
Right now — early access is open. Pick a plan and create your account: on Free you get a personal space on our shared site in a minute, no credit card; on Pro and Business your own portal is live in minutes.
Can my AI assistant use my account?
Yes, on every plan. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor to your account and ask in plain words: it saves what it wrote as a file, uploads files, gets a private link for each one and tells you who downloaded it. On Pro and Business it also organises files in folders, creates client accounts and sends them files or whole folders. You approve what it may do when you connect it, everything it does is recorded in your account as your AI assistant, and you can disconnect it with one click. There is nothing extra to pay. Automation tools like n8n use the same connection with an API token on Pro and Business.
How does the Free plan work?
It's a real free plan, not a trial — and it's deliberately small. You get a personal account on files.projectsend.site, a ProjectSend site we run: 2 GB of storage and a private link for every file you upload, with nothing to set up and no credit card. Files are kept for 30 days after you upload them, and we email you before any are deleted. It doesn't include a portal of your own, your branding, client accounts or team seats — those come with Pro, from $19 a month. Sign in at least once a month to keep the account; accounts nobody signs in to are paused and eventually removed. It's a shared site, so the acceptable-use rules in our Terms apply. When you outgrow it, get your own portal and we move your files across.
