Connect Your AI to ProjectSend
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor to ProjectSend. Save files, get private links, and see who downloaded what — from inside your AI conversation.
· By ProjectSend Team

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or Cursor to your ProjectSend Cloud account and your assistant can save a file it wrote, hand you a private link, and tell you whether your client downloaded it — all inside the conversation. On Pro and Business, it also creates client accounts and sends files directly to them. You approve what it may do from your browser, and you can disconnect at any time.
Say you finish a client summary in Claude and ask it to save the file and give you a link to share. The file lands in your ProjectSend account under the same name, and you get the private link in the same reply. When your client downloads it, Activity records the time. Ask later — "Did they download it?" — and the assistant reads the same record you would see on the web.
What can your assistant do?
The connection works on every plan, the free one included. On the free plan, your assistant works with your own files:
- Save something it wrote as a file and get a private link — up to 1 MB inline; larger files upload in the background
- Upload a file it holds on disk — a PDF a script generated, a file from Claude Code
- Hand you the upload page for a file it cannot reach directly
- Tell you whether and when a link was downloaded; stop a link or delete a file
- Check how much storage you have left
On Pro and Business, it can also:
- List and create client accounts; send a file to a client with the usual email notification
- Create folders, move files into them, and share a whole folder with a client account
- Show you which client, specifically, downloaded a file — not just a download count
What it never does, on any plan: read the contents of your files, touch your plan or billing, or act before you have approved it. For a detailed privacy breakdown, see AI Assistant: Safe for Client Files?
How do you connect it?
There is no API key to paste. The connection runs over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for AI integrations that Anthropic introduced in November 2024 and that is now supported by Claude, ChatGPT, and a wide range of tools. Your address for the connection depends on your plan:
- Free plan: https://files.projectsend.site/mcp
- Pro and Business: https://your-subdomain.projectsend.site/mcp — the address you chose when you created your portal, with /mcp at the end
How to add it in each assistant:
- Claude.ai and Claude Desktop: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it ProjectSend, paste your address, click Connect, and approve on the page that opens.
- Claude Code: In a terminal, run: claude mcp add --transport http projectsend <your address>. In a session, run /mcp, pick projectsend, and authenticate.
- Cursor: Settings → MCP, add a server with your address. Approve on the page that opens the first time you use a ProjectSend tool.
- ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors, enable Developer mode, then add a connector with your address.
- n8n, Make, your own scripts (Pro and Business): same address with an API token from Settings → API tokens as a Bearer header.
Step-by-step for each assistant, plus troubleshooting, is in the full guide.
What the approval page shows you
When you connect, your browser opens a page on your ProjectSend site. Sign in, and the page tells you:
- Which assistant is asking, and whether it is verified by a public address
- Which account it will operate — your account, by name, on which site
- What it may do — on Pro and Business you choose Read (see but change nothing) or Operate (also save, organize, share, and send files to clients); on the free plan there is one level: save and upload your files, get links, see who downloaded them
Choose Read to start if you are not sure — you can disconnect and reconnect with Operate permissions at any time, with no data lost. Settings → AI connections in your ProjectSend site lists every assistant you have connected, what it may do, when it was last used, and whether it is verified. Disconnect cuts access immediately.
What you see afterward
Everything your assistant does appears in your account the moment it happens:
- Free plan: your files, links and download counts are in My files on files.projectsend.site — exactly as if you had uploaded them yourself.
- Pro and Business: Activity shows every action labeled AI assistant with the assistant's name, right next to what you and your team did. A filter shows only assistant actions.
You can start a session with "Save these notes as a file and give me a link to share" and get the link in the same reply. Later, "Did they download it?" reads the same download record you would check in Activity. For ready-made prompts by professional category, see AI Prompts to Deliver Client Files.
ProjectSend Cloud is the hosted version of ProjectSend, the open source client portal. The project's codebase has accumulated 4.8 million Docker downloads and powers more than 4,000 active installations. The same team that maintains the open source project runs ProjectSend Cloud — and every subscription helps fund development of both. More in the AI assistants section of the blog.
The MCP connector is coming soon to ProjectSend open source.
Frequently asked questions
- Does connecting an assistant cost extra?
- No. The connection is included in every plan, the free one too.
- Which assistants work?
- Claude, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, and any tool that speaks the Model Context Protocol over HTTP. Automation tools such as n8n and Make use an API token on Pro and Business.
- Can my assistant read the contents of my files?
- No. The connection works with file names, sizes, links and download records — not the bytes. What you ask it to save does reach your account, like any upload.
- How do I disconnect an assistant?
- Settings → AI connections in your ProjectSend site. Disconnect cuts access immediately. A connection that goes 30 days without use expires on its own.
